Restricted Martin County Records
Remote access is narrower than total public courthouse access. MCRO terms exclude CHIPS, Juvenile Delinquency Felony 16, domestic abuse Orders for Protection, Harassment Restraining Orders, public civil-commitment documents, party street addresses, and many confidential or redacted fields from remote display. Juvenile, adoption, mental-health, sealed, and expunged records are not ordinary public files.
Expungement generally seals a record rather than destroying it. Minnesota law now includes petition-based and automatic expungement routes under chapter 609A. If a Martin County criminal case has been expunged, MCRO may stop showing it, but agency and background-check systems can have separate rules and update timing. The Sheriff's Office publishes an active warrant page and says the list is updated biweekly. Marriage records belong to the Martin County Recorder, not Court Administration. The county directs couples to start with MOMS, the Minnesota Official Marriage System, then both parties must appear together at the Recorder's Office to sign. Marriage licenses are issued between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., cost $125.00, or $50.00 with premarital counseling, and are valid for six months in Minnesota. Certified marriage certificates from Martin County cost $9.00 each.

Martin County Court History
Martin County's courthouse history is unusually specific. The first courthouse was a log building erected in 1862, five years after county incorporation into Minnesota Territory. During the 1862 conflict period, a stockade was built around it as Fort Fairmount. The building later served public and commercial uses until the second courthouse opened in 1882.
The current courthouse was built on the Fort Fairmount site overlooking Fairmont and Lake Sisseton. Charles E. Bell designed it, J.B. Nelson built it, construction began April 9, 1906, and dedication occurred December 16, 1907. The courthouse has a copper dome, four clock faces, Marquette raindrop sandstone, Bedford limestone, and murals by Franz E. Rohrbeck. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on September 22, 1977. An elevator addition completed in 1997 improved access, and dome and roof repair finished in December 2022.
