Search Martin County Court Records Online
Minnesota Court Records Online Case Search, often called MCRO, is the main public route for Martin County District Court case lookup. MCRO covers Minnesota state district trial courts, so Martin County records appear in the same statewide system used for other counties. Case Search can look for a person, business, attorney, case number, citation number, or attorney bar number. It can also lead to the Register of Actions and to public documents that are remotely available.
MCRO is useful, but it is not a certified court record. The MCRO FAQ says the site cannot certify documents, run background checks, file documents, schedule hearings, or pay fines. It also resets after inactivity and has remote-access limits. For certified copies, older local files, paper records, or a case that does not display online, the fallback is Martin County Court Administration at the courthouse campus.

Those limits matter most when a record is confidential, too new for remote display, or available only by case number.

Martin County Court Record Types
Martin County is in Minnesota's unified District Court system. The local District Court has original jurisdiction in civil, family, probate, juvenile, criminal, and traffic cases filed in the county. There is no separate county court, justice court, or municipal court record system for the court file. City police agencies may issue citations, but the state court case is handled through Martin County District Court and the statewide court systems.

Criminal court records include complaints or citations, charges, first appearances, Rule 8 hearings, omnibus hearings, pleas, trials, sentencing, probation revocations, warrants, and related orders. Family, probate, traffic, juvenile, and mental-health records have their own access rules, and some are not remotely displayed even when a courthouse terminal may show a limited public record.

What Martin County Court Records Show
A Martin County court record is more than a name match. The case file usually has a court file number, case category, filing date, status, parties, attorneys, agencies, charges or claims, hearings, financial entries, and a Register of Actions. Public Access for Martin County Court Records
Minnesota public-records law and judicial-branch access rules work together, but they are not the same thing. Minnesota Statutes chapter 13, the Government Data Practices Act, provides the general public-data framework for state and local government data. Minnesota Statutes section 13.03 addresses public inspection and copies of public government data, subject to reasonable procedures and copy charges. Court records are governed by the judiciary's own public-access rules.

County-held noncourt records can go through the Martin County public records request portal, but that portal should not be treated as the certified-copy route for state court records.

Restricted Martin County Court Records
Some Martin County court records are public only in part, available only at the courthouse, or not public at all. MCRO terms exclude CHIPS and Juvenile Delinquency Felony 16 case types from remote display. Civil commitment documents are not available in MCRO. Domestic abuse Orders for Protection and Harassment Restraining Orders are also restricted for remote access because of federal and state rules. Family court documents often have narrow remote access, especially for sensitive filings, addresses, minors' information, and financial data.
Sealed and expunged records are different from ordinary redacted records. Under Minnesota Statutes chapter 609A and section 609A.02, some qualifying criminal records can be sealed automatically or by petition. An expunged Martin County case may stop appearing in MCRO, but agency and background-check systems can update on different timelines.

That statute supports public access generally, while sealed, juvenile, and court-rule limits still block some records.
Martin County Court Record Requests
Martin County Court Administration is the local office for certified court copies, courthouse-terminal access, older files, and questions about records that MCRO does not show. The office is on the second floor of the Law Enforcement Center at the 201 Lake Avenue courthouse campus. Use the court office for state court files. Use the Sheriff's Records Department or NextRequest for county-held sheriff reports and other county data. Use the Minnesota BCA Criminal History Search for criminal-history background checks rather than MCRO. These routes overlap in subject matter, but each one answers a different record question.
